Founded:1749

Population: The 2003 population estimate is 23,785.

Area:
Land area: 47.57 square miles,
Water area: 8.30 square miles

Origin of Name:
The first tracks of land in the area were purchased in 1735 by settlers from Staffordshire, England. According to local lore, the entire area originally was called Manahawkin, hich is Lenni Lenape for "good corn land."
Boundries:

Barnegat Township to the north and Little Egg Harbor o the south

Township Council meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month, 7:00 p.m. at 260 E. Bay Avenue.

Stafford Planning Board meets first and third Wednesdays of each month, 7:30 p.m. at 260 E. Bay Avenue.

Stafford Township Zoning Board of Adjustment meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, 7:30 p.m., at 260 E. Bay Ave.

Southern Regional Board of Education meets the second Wednesday of each month, 7:00 p.m. at 105 Cedar Bridge Rd.

Stafford Township Board of Education meets on a Thursday of each, 7:30 p.m., at 775 E. Bay Ave. For Specific meeeting dates call 609-978-5708, extension 100.
