Helpful Hints

A dripping faucet or fixture can waste 3 gallons of water a day or a total of 1095 gallons of water per year.A 1/16” hole in a pipe or hose would result in a loss of 74,000 gallons or water over a three-month period.A ¼” hole would result in a loss of over 1,180,000 gallons of water over a three month period. Please take the time to check your faucets and fixtures to make certain that they do not leak.

If you are leaving your home for a long period of time consider turning off the main valve so as to prevent leaking or broken pipes. Also, please make certain that all outside hoses have been turned off and disconnected.

Please keep in mind that the Township cannot credit your bill for water loss due to leaks or broken pipes that could have been avoided.

Winterize all areas where pipes are present and check all faucets in your home before you leave. If you would like any additional information concerning this issue please feel free to contact our office. We have handouts available to our customers concerning water conservation measures. Proper water conservation saves precious resources and money.

We encourage all new customers and potential new customers to seriously consider retaining their private wells if at all possible to use for outdoor usage. If your private well is still functional you should seriously consider keeping the well for lawn watering, outdoor pool use, washing of cars, and other outdoor uses. This would enable you to keep your costs for public water at a minimum and conserve water at the same time. Please keep in mind, however, that the connection to the public water system must be completely separate from the connection to your private well. There can be no “cross connection” of the two systems.

Please be advised that it is a fire code violation to place any fences, shrubs, trees or flowers within 5' around a fire hydrant.

Please keep in mind that the Township has adopted an Ordinance that impacts when you would have to connect to the public water system if public water is available.Basically the provisions of the Ordinance allow the homeowner to extend the time of connection up to five years from the date that the homeowners private well was installed.

If, for example, you just moved into a new home with a private well and you immediately received a notice that public water was available and you had to connect to the system, you would have 5 years from the date of your certificate of occupancy to connect to the system. At the time of connection you would, however, have to pay the connection fee in effect at the time of connection.

The Township utilizes a remote electronic meter reading system for reading water meters. This system enables our staff to read approximately 120 meters every minute. If you suspect that you have a leak and you would like to know your meter reading and water consumption since your last reading, please feel free to call our office and we can take care of that for you. Our system has the ability to read your meter at virtually any time and we will be able to tell you if your water consumption is much higher than in previous quarters which would signify a problem.
