Prior Approvals
In-Ground Swimming Pools
Zoning: Provide a completed zoning application with 3 sealed plot plans showing the proposed swimming pool and including all setbacks, concrete walkways, patios, and retaining walls. Also, submit 3 copies of a grading plan by a licensed engineer on the same plot plan or separately complying with Stafford Township Code Chapter 118. Direct all questions about your grading plan requirements to CME Engineering at 732-462-7400.
The fees are as follows and payable to Stafford Township:
- Separate check for $25 for zoning application
- Separate check for $25 for grading application
- Separate check for $450 for initial grading and final as-built grading plan review
Above-Ground Swimming Pools
Zoning: Provide a completed zoning application with 2 plot plans showing drawn by the owner or New Jersey licensed surveyor of the proposed swimming pool and including all setbacks, concrete walkways, and patios, retaining walls.
The fees are as follows and payable to Stafford Township: Separate check for $25 for zoning application
Construction Permit for Above and In-ground Pools
- Fill out the Identification section located on the front of the of Construction Permit Application (PDF) and Certification in Lieu of Oath section I or II.
- Fill out the Building Subcode (PDF), section A, B (Estimated Cost Building Work only), C (signature and print name) and section D by a contractor or the homeowner performing their own work.
- Fill out the Plumbing Subcode application (PDF) section A, B (Estimated Cost Building Work only), C and D by a contractor or the homeowner performing their own work if a pool heater or main drain is to be installed. Submit a gas schematic showing the length of the run, type of material and the BTU input of the heater if a line is to be installed.
- Fill out the Electrical Subcode application (PDF) section A, B (Estimated Cost Building Work only), C and D by a New Jersey licensed electrical contractor or by the homeowner performing their own work.
- Fill out and read Document SW 3 - 7 (PDF) to determine the barrier you will provide for your pool.
- Provide 2 sets plans for the construction for an in-ground pool by of New Jersey licensed engineer and a copy of the pool filter specifications.
- Return the completed construction applications and your permit will be processed after we receive your zoning approval. You will be called at the telephone number you provide on the construction applications with the price for your construction permit.
Inspections
For next day inspection, please call 609-597-1000, ext. 8532, 8533, or 8580 before 3 p.m.
The owner and agent/contractor bear joint responsibility for bringing compliance to the regulations pursuant to N.J.A.C. 5:23- 2.18(c): the time the inspection is desired. Inspections shall be performed within three business days of the time for which it was requested. The work shall not proceed in a manner which will preclude the inspection until it has been made.
Note: The owner or other responsible person in charge of work shall notify the enforcing agency when the work ready for any required inspection specified herein or required by the construction official or appropriate subcode official. This notice shall be given at least 24 hours prior to the time the inspection is desired.Inspections shall be performed within 3 business days of the time for which it was requested. The work shall not proceed in a manner which will preclude the inspection until it has been made.
In-Ground Pool
- Main Drain: This is a plumbing inspection of the piping of the main drain when completed in the pool area.
- Collar Inspection: After the installation of the pool collar and concrete is poured.
- Gas Piping: All tested gas piping before covering with earth.
- Rough Electric: After the installation of the wire and conduit, an open trench and bonding inspection shall be approved prior to back filling.
- Equipotential Bonding Grid: This grid must be inspected prior to the installation of the walking surface around the swimming pool and done prior to Final Electric Inspection.
- Final Building: After completion of the pool and barriers.
- Final Electric: For this inspection, house access to panel box is required.
- Final Plumbing: After completion of the pool heater and installation of the atmospheric safety vacuum release system for all submerged suction inlets.
- Final Engineering: Submit 3 copies of an as built plan showing the setbacks and elevations.
- Certificate Of Approval: N.J.A.C. 5:23-(l) allows the use of your swimming pool after all inspections are approved. Use of the swimming pool before the issuance of a certificate of approval can subject you to an immediate penalty assessment.
Above-Ground Pool
