AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWNSHIP OF STAFFORD, COUNTY OF OCEAN, STATE OF NEW JERSEY, SUPPLEMENTING CHAPTER 214 OF THE TOWNSHIP CODE, ENTITLED “CANNABIS ITEMS” SO AS TO AMEND SECTION 214-4, ENTITLED “PROHIBITION OF CONSUMPTION OF CANNABIS ITEMS ON PUBLIC PROPERTY”
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Ordinance No. 2026-12 was introduced and passed on 1st reading by the Mayor and Township Council of the Township of Stafford at their meeting held on the 3rd day of March, 2026. The purpose of this ordinance is to amend Section 214-4 entitled “Prohibition of Consumption of Cannabis Items on Public Property in its entirety and replaced with the following:
§ 214-4 Prohibition of Consumption of Cannabis Items on Public Property.
A. No person 21 years of age or older may consume, including by smoking, vaping, or aerosolizing, any cannabis item in a public place, including any indoor public place as that term is defined in Section 3 of P.L. 2005, c. 383 (N.J.S.A. 26:3D-57), or portion thereof.
B. Any person found to be in violation of this section shall be subject to a civil penalty of up to $200.
This Ordinance is scheduled for public comment and adoption at the March 31, 2026 Council meeting. All Council meetings are located at the Municipal Building, 260 E. Bay Avenue, Manahawkin, NJ at 7:00 pm. Copies of this Ordinance are available at the Township Clerk’s Office during normal business hours.
