Construction Permit Application (PDF)

• Complete I. Identification block on Page 1
• Complete Certification in Lieu of Oath on page 2
• If homeowner is performing the work, complete Owner Section I, items B, C and D
• If the contractor is performing the work, the contractor must complete Agent Section II (to be completed if the applicant is not the owner in fee)

If applicable, the contractor must have NJ Plumbing Contractors License, NJ Electrical Contractors License and/or Home Improvement Contractors License issued by the state of New Jersey.

Complete The Appropriate Technical Subcode Application

Building

• Technical Identification Block, (Section A)
• Certification in Lieu of Oath, (Section C)
• Description of Work, (Section D)

Electrical

• Technical Identification Block, (Section A)
• Certification in Lieu of Oath, (Section C)
• Check either Licensed Electrical Contractor and provide seal or Exempt Applicant (Homeowner) Description of Work, (Section D)

Plumbing

• Technical Identification Block, (Section A)
• Certification in Lieu of Oath, (Section C)
• Check either Licensed Plumbing Contractor and provide seal or Exempt Applicant (Homeowner) Description of Work, (Section D)

Fire Protection

• Technical Identification Block, (Section A)
• Certification in Lieu of Oath, (Section C)

Permits & Inspections When Required

Circuits

• Any altering or rewiring of any circuit. Any replacements of a panel service box, meter pan, disconnect electric heat or replacement of equipment.
• Please fill out Construction Permit Application (PDF) and Electrical Subcode Technical (PDF)
• Required Inspection On This Item Before Covering

Water Heater / Boiler / Furnace Replacements

• Replacement of hot water heater, boiler, furnace (electric or gas)
• Please fill out Construction Permit Application (PDF), Plumbing Subcode (PDF), and Fire Subcode Technical (PDF) for gas water heater. Fill out Construction Permit Application (PDF) and Electrical Subcode Technical (PDF) for electric water heater.
• Require Final Inspection

Structural Changes

• Replacement of any structural components of the structure that may occur in roof, walls or floor system.
• Please fill out a Construction Permit Application (PDF) and Building Subcode Technical (PDF).
• Required Inspections On This Item Before Covering

Decks & Steps

• Repair and replacement of decks and/or steps.
• Please fill out a Construction Permit Application (PDF) and a Building Subcode Technical (PDF)
• Required Inspections On This Item Before Covering

Siding & Roof

• Replacement of siding and/or roofing on a one or two family detached dwelling does not require a construction permit. This work is considered ordinary maintenance.
