[ARCHIVED] PRESS RELEASE - MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN STAFFORD TOWNSHIP

On Thursday December 15, 2016 at 1404 hours Stafford Twp. Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident on Rt. 72 in the area of Nautilus Drive.


Investigation at the scene revealed an 18 wheeler driven by Joshua Lehlbach of Medford, was traveling east on Rt. 72 when he applied his brakes, stating another vehicle pulled out in front of him. Mr. Lehlbach turned the truck to the left while applying the brakes, which forced the vehicle into a jack knife and into the westbound lane. The vehicle's gas tank was ruptured in the accident and diesel fuel was spilled onto the roadway.


Stafford Twp. Fire Dept., Berkeley Twp. Hazmat, Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey Department of Transportation were contacted and/or responded to the scene.


No injuries were reported. Moderate traffic delays were reported. Traffic was back to normal after approximately three hours.



The driver of the 2nd vehicle left the scene but is known and investigation into the cause of the accident is pending.
